Roedelius

Snapshots/Sidesteps

Hans-Joachim Roedelius' latest musical project entitled Snapshots/Sidesteps, will be released on the US based e-label, Cozy Music. The album is a ten track compilation which features collaborations with The Orb, Patrick Pulsinger, Alec Way, Haeyoung Kim, Fratelli Brothers, Timothy O'Keefe, Fabio Capanni, David Bickley, Seiichi Suzuki and Werner Moebius.

Snapshots/Sidesteps showcases works produced over the past 10 years, and takes the listener on a journey through ambient, glitch, electronic, and dub. As a founding member of Kluster in 1969, Roedelius' eponymous debut pioneered the brick-a-brack approach to electronic music. Roedelius has worked with a long list of impressive collaborators including Holger Czukay (Can), Conrad Plank (Krautrock producer extraordinaire),
Brian Eno and Michael Rother (NEU!).

Roedelius' first prodigious steps into the creative life began as a childhood actor. He appeared in six German feature films before the age of ten. As a result of WWII and its aftermath, Roedelius was presented with difficult times. His family was forced to evacuate toward the Russian border in 1943. The post-war period continued his struggle while living under the watchful eye of the newly formed East German Stasi.
Uncomfortable and incongruent, Roedelius fled this regime, and began selling fake jewelry while sharing a single apartment with other refugees.

Roedelius was eventually arrested and interrogated as he attempted to cross
the border to visit his family in 1952. Given time and freedom, Roedelius found himself on the creative outskirts of a different new society in which he was now immersed. Eventually in the 1960s, Roedelius set out to pursue his interests as a professional composer. He indulged in experiments with sound that he described as 'anarchic musical actionism'.

Hans Joachim Roedelius´ overall impact on a number of music genres is immense, and he has often been described as one
of the Übermeisters of what would later become known, affectionately, as Krautrock. He has released over 150 records, encompassing experimental and leftfield departures, to more traditional soundtracks and classical compositions. He has a loyal fan base made up of young and old music enthusiasts
