Simon Reuben White

Simon's interest in sound started early, a childhood fascination with shortwave radio saw him recording chunks of interference signals, which he would crudely edit together on his parent's reel to reel tape recorder. These early experiments led to the purchase of his first 4 track Portastudio at the age of 11. From that day forward, Simon has been busy creating a vast body of recorded material in many different styles.

"By always having some sort of recording device with me, be it a tape recorder in the early days or more recently with digital recorders, I can now chart the history of my life through these recordings. Picking through them and listening back can sometimes feel like taking little excursions in a time machine"

His continued experimentation with recorded sound led him to study at the Central Saint Martins School of Art in London. Simon graduating with an MA in 2005. During his study, Simon was commissioned to create a sound installation for the Trafalgar Hilton Hotel in London's Trafalgar Square. The piece was created entirely from sound recordings gathered from within the hotel.

Recent experiments have seen him creating expansive musical tapestries from the most humble of sound sources. Flea market instruments, thrown out electrical goods, children's toy pianos, and glockenspiels are all used to create tracks of sonic richness that belie their origins.

Simon resides in London, UK.
